The Municipality of Anchorage (MOA), Project Management and Engineering Department (PM&E) is proceeding with a project to complete the 100th Avenue corridor between Minnesota Drive and C Street.

The east/west traffic corridors south of Dimond Boulevard are limited between the Old Seward Highway and Minnesota Drive. As a result, Dimond Boulevard is frequently congested with a high volume of traffic causing significant traffic delay.

This project will complete the connection of 100th Avenue to the Old Seward Highway. This will improve access to business areas south of Dimond Boulevard and reduce congestion on Dimond Boulevard. The 100th Avenue extension project will include pavement, possible curb and gutter, street lighting, storm drainage, a multi-use pathway, sidewalks, and landscaping.

The current project has been designed in two phases to allow for a surcharge fill construction technique and to accommodate funding limitations. Phase IIA from C Street to Minnesota Drive was constructed with over 200,000 tons of gravel material placed on high-strength geotextiles over the saturated peat bog. After allowing a settlement period of 4-6 months, Phase IIB construction begins late summer 2017. Phase IIB includes a new minor arterial roadway between C Street and Minnesota Drive with the construction of two roundabouts at the Minnesota interchange. The roundabouts will be constructed in late summer 2017, and the remainder of the road will be completed in 2018.
